Gifts for our Chinese Visitors

Each year at the beginning of October, the school I work at hosts a group of 15 - 20 Chinese school children and their teachers.  We do so many activities with them as a school...  cookouts, lake trips, a trip to the fair, classroom tours... etc.

Last year I made a booklet for each of the students and teachers - this year the idea was bookmarks.

Our school mascot is the Husky - Hoover Huskies, and the Team Spirit cartridge has such an awesome image... I made one for each of the tour group.
This is a close-up of the 2 3/4 inch cut and all its layers - black, 3 shades of gray, and white.  It's approximately 15 pieces for each Husky cut.

This piece I cut larger - for me.... It's a 3 1/2 inch cut (It actually didn't fit on the bookmarks.) and turned out quite large!  I took a little extra time to ink the edges, added silver stickles, and a black glaze pen added dimension and shine to the eyes, nose, and some other areas.

We had them laminated, and I was told our visitors LOVED them!  :)

A Bookmark for Me!

Most of the time I make cards and projects for other people.  That's actually 99.9% of the craft work I produce.

I was looking around online and saw these handmade bookmarks - I made some in plastic coverings a few Christmases ago... but never made one for myself.
Lately, I've been spending lots of time waiting......  and I can nap only so much. ;) ;)... SO I started picking up books and novels to read while I've been doing this waiting.    The only problem I've had is that I'm using bits of paper, book receipts from the purchase, or adverts I've torn out of the center as bookmarks!

After I saw one of these online, I decided to make one myself. :)  The backing is Wild Wasabi,  DSP mini polka-dot paper, and 2 1/2 by 8 inch piece of whisper white, with 1/4 inch added to the dimensions of each of the backing pieces.
The ribbon was a scrap that was just long enough not to go to waste.  Whew! :)

Colors:  Pink Pirouette and Blushing Bride for the small flowers.  Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry on the top flower,  Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry for the bottom flower.  The leaves?  Pear Pizzazz and Wild Wasabi.
I then took these colors in the markers, and wrote READ all over the front.

Talk to you soon!!

Christmas Gifts - Checkbook Covers and Bookmarks

A few months ago for our Stampin' Up Card Club, our Demo Kathy had these checkbook covers for us to decorate. She also had some samples of the bookmarks she'd made for us to look at.
My first though (along with some of the other girls) was 'What GREAT gifts!!'
So this is what I came up with:

This set is for my cousin's new wife Olga.

This set went to my nephew's wife Alex... she LOVES
daisies, and the color turquoise!

This set is for my sister Gail. She loves flowers and
always has cardinals out her door where she feeds them.

Sunflowers?? Has to be for Mom!!! She also sews constantly
so I thought the buttons would be lots of fun.

This set went to my Aunt Nancy... she loves kitties too!!!
and I also know how she loves purple.

I sure hoped they like the checkbook covers and bookmarks!!!

Your comments are always appreciated!
