I Did It! Such Wonderful News!

The last few years I've competed at our area State Fair.  It's such a strange name, called the Tulsa State Fair -  I've said it, and I've heard it many times....  "Since when is Tulsa a state?"  Silly, yes.  But it's HUGE!

This year I entered 3 items - 2 craft pieces, and a cake.  This afternoon my husband and I had a chance to go to the fair to check out how I did on my entries, and take a walk around the fair.  Like I said, it's HUGE!  We walked the midway and had a great time looking at all the rides, and through the buildings of competitive exhibits, the 4H exhibits - livestock etc.

I'm so thrilled to say that my yearly project - the calendars took a first, AND the division sweepstakes!  I'm so excited!!!!!!!!  :)

This is a project Mom and I spend about 2 weeks together working on when they (Mom and Dad) come to visit.  I usually spend about a month preparing the pieces for assembly as well.

In the labels section here on the blog, if you click on CD case calendars, you can see close-ups of each page.

This was my second craft entry - it's a gift set of cards - all with that flower, but in a large array of different colors, and with matching stamped envelopes.  This was also a big project I did, and gave them as Christmas gifts.

Click HERE to see the entire set of cards in this gift set.

My chocolate cake... that everyone loves so much... that I make SO often I don't need the recipe now.....  Zilch.  :(  Oh well.  It is a great cake.

I'm just thrilled my calendars and card set did so well.

Thank you!

Tulsa State Fair Entries

Today was turn-in for the 2011 "Tulsa" State Fair! I have a total of 3 entries, but one must be turned in next Saturday... and I need to bake it Friday night.

Here are pictures of the two projects I turned in today.
The first one is a "basic card". I used lots of techniques here...
Heat embossing, matting, marker coloring, buttons, 3D elements, embosslits.
Most products on this project are from Stampin' Up.
For cardstock, I used:
Concord Crush, Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White, Lucky Limeade, Daffodil Delight.
Markers used:
Daffodil Delight, Wild Wasabi, Lucky Limeade, More Mustard, So Saffron,
I also used Elegant Eggplant Craft ink and clear embossing powder for the
embossing on the main piece, and the inside as well.

Here's the inside of the card. The 3D piece is the lattice die from Stampin' Up, and the butterflies were cut with the Embosslits die in the cardstock colors listed above.

Here is my Christmas piece. This one took me about a month to complete! At first I thought it was way too busy, BUT as an Advent Calendar, the person using it will have an entire month to look at it, so with lots of details, it won't get boring! When I get it back, my parents will take it back to Wisconsin with them, and it will go to my sister Gail. I know she'll LOVE it!

This bow was made on the Bowdabra with wired ribbon I got from Hobby Lobby.

Here you can see the Stampin' Up Matchboxes stacked in sets of 3.
I used Debbie Mumm paper for the top and bottom as well as the red and green glittered striped paper for the sides. The small circle cut-outs are also from the Debbie Mumm Harvest & Holiday's stack.
The button pieces - holly & ivy, hat & mittens, snowflakes, and snowman all came from Hobby Lobby in the Christmas aisle.

All the rest of the items are from Stampin' Up!

I used a new technique using Glossy Effects, reinkers, and Dazzling Diamonds glitter. You can see it on each individual number from 1 - 24, the poinsettia, and the bells.

Here you can see one of the stockings from the new Holiday Mini... I really LOVE those stockings! I heat embossed it, used the Ballet Blue marker for accents, and a rhinestone in the center of the snowflake.
Here on box #7 you can see one of the snowflakes using the glossy effects, a blue reinker, and the dazzling diamonds. They're so sparkly!

I used the glossy effects on the poinsettias as well. I know my sister will LOVE this!!!

I also embossed the green stocking and used the Daffodil Delight marker to add some accents to it.

Each box was filled with either wrapped Hershey's Nuggets (even dates), or red peppermints and green spearmint candy (odd dates).

As I said, I turned these in today... so we will see how I fare in the ribbons. I really worked hard and put a lot of thought into these two items!!! Hopefully they will realize it. :)

Tulsa "State" Fair Card Entries

Here are my three entries for the soon to come Tulsa "State" Fair. Why the State in quotes? Tulsa IS NOT a state!!!! Uh! That just drives me crazy... Oh well, on to my entries. :)

I've had these all finished for the past 3 weeks, but have posted them now because they were judged this past Sunday. When the fair opens, I'll find out if I won any ribbons. Oh, the suspense!!!!

This card was entered under the Basic Cards in the Rubber Stamping division.
I used lots of techniques, and some of the new Stampin' Up ink colors!! Of course, I had to throw in a little Cricut... and I scented all of the cards.

I used the Daffodil Delight and Poppy Parade in the new color line from SU on this card. Gotta LOVE the new colors! Only basic layering here, and I colored the Organza ribbon with the ink pad to match the pinks on the card. Yes, it really matches in person. I don't know why it looks 'off' here.

This is the inside view of the above card. The photo corners are from the Jasmine cartridge, SU oval and oval scallop punches, and only one layer.

This card is entered in the Advanced Card, Rubber Stamping Division.
I used LOTS of layers, and to get these 3 lilacs, I stamped 20!!! There's a trick to layering the Kitchen Sink Lilacs, and I had to figure it out!!

I used Concord Crush and Pear Pizzazz from the new SU colors on this card.
One of the advanced techniques I used was masking, the layering of stamps, and I actually cut the ribbon to get the effect I wanted from the sentiment.

Here is the inside view of the Lilac card... it is also lilac scented. I hope they appreciate the scents!

I used this card recently for a swap, and loved it SO much, I recreated it for the Advanced Card division. I ended up using it the holiday division instead. I hope they appreciate the crazy amount of work this card actually entails!!!

This card is: Debbie Mumm Harvest Holiday stack, Cuttlebug Autumn folder, Stained Glass stamps from Stampin' Up, Stampin' Up watercolors, pumpkin ribbon, and double inked embossing with Tim Holtz Walnut stain, and Chocolate Chip ink. I also used the Define Your Life Gratitude stamp, and matted it after using the ticket punch. This card was scented with cinnamon. WHEW! :)

Since it is rubber stamping, I did not use my Cricut Happy Thanksgiving cut, but a very pretty stamp I've had for quite a long time.
